Working together

Detail of the original drawing ‘patchwork’

Today’s drawing is partly a result of having an art morning with my children, Saliou is 3,5 and Awa 2 years.

We can learn so much from our children, their imagination knows no limits and they treat everything with this beautiful innocent curiosity.

As a result of me reading a verse from the Quran yesterday I felt today’s drawing emerge:

O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). –

Quran, Chapter (49:13) sūrat l-ḥujurāt (The Dwellings)

The drawing represents all of the races coming together in harmony. I wish for that to happen so much, I don’t care how idealistic and dreamy it sounds, it’s my wish, my dream, my hope..
