Farewell

‘Farewell’ A4 (23.4 x 33.1 inches), chalk-pastel on paper

Standing at the edge of the desert. A Father saying goodbye to his son before setting out on his last journey.

I made this drawing in honour of my grandad Barham.

A sketch before starting in chalk pastel:

Recitation of the holy Quran I listened to whilst drawing:

I personally enjoy seeing an artists process, so I like sharing it and not just the end result. Often I share music that inspired me, photos of sketches and a messy studio (aka kitchen table) in my posts. This time I was thinking for a while whether to post the Quran recitation with it or not (nowadays hearing someone say Allahu Akbar can already cause serious fear in peoples hearts) But then I remembered I am using this platform as a way to express myself and I want to be authentic in doing so. So I kept it in. Hopefully it can contribute to seeing Islam in a different light.

Thank you for your interest and I am always happy to hear form you, feel free to comment below.

Love, Salam,

Isabella
